Attendance

Illness and Appointments

If your child is going to be absent due to illness, please inform the school office before 8.50am.  If your child has not arrived at school on time and we have not been informed we will ring to check they are safe and see why they are not in school.

If your child has a medical or dental appointment, please inform the school office beforehand.

Children must be collected from the school office for appointments, where they should be signed out before leaving school. If a child returns to school during the day, they must be signed back in.

Please read the information provided by the NHS about whether to keep your child off school.

How We Can Help?

It can be difficult to know when to send your child into school if they are feeling unwell or are mildly anxious, and so we want you to know that there is support and information available to help you make the right decision for your child.

If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please make contact with us as soon as possible so that support can be offered to help overcome any challenges your child is facing. You can contact Mrs Brennan (Deputy Head and Attendance Champion) by phone or email via the school office.

We also understand that some children face greater barriers to attendance, such as those with long-term medical conditions and special educational needs and disabilities and need support with a more specialised and individual approach. Where this is the case we would encourage you to make contact with our SENDCO, Mrs Rowlinson, so that appropriate support can be explored.

Absence for Exceptional Circumstances

In line with the new statutory guidance which came into force in August, we have taken time to review and refresh our attendance policy, a copy of which can be found by clicking on the link below.

Attendance Policy

As in previous years we will only grant term-time requests for absence in exceptional circumstances. However, we would like our families to be aware that, as part of the updated government guidance, schools must now consider using a penalty notice when a child’s absence reaches the national threshold of 10 sessions of unauthorised absence in a rolling period of 10 school weeks. In doing so, it is likely that such penalty notices will be issued where unauthorised term-time holidays result in this national threshold being met.

Please complete  ‘An Absence from School for Exceptional Circumstances’ form in advance otherwise any leave of absence cannot be granted.  This form can be accessed via the link below, collected from the school office or it can be emailed to you on request.
